Fantasy Sports Alliance Signs Four Sponsors for Their New Rivalry Bowl Games

By FSA Press
15 April 2019

Fantasy Sports Alliance (FSA) announced today the four sponsors for their newly created Rivalry Bowl Games, which will take place at the end of the 2019 season.

Ladies Love Big Men, Georgia Rustics Candle Company, Independent Consultant, Jesse Worthington, and Nature Coast Tailgating have all committed as 2019 Rivalry Bowl Game Sponsors.

Ladies Love Big Men is a clothing company owned by James Jones and is based out of Kyoto, Japan, Geneva, Switzerland, and Ohio. They will be sponsoring this year’s Colossus Bowl. The Ladies Love Big Men Colossus Bowl will pair the runners-up from the Mid-Atlantic and European Regional Championship games.

Georgia Rustics Candle Company, and their owners, Maggie and Larry Stineman, are based in Waleska, Ga. Georgia Rustics Candles are hand-poured, small-batched, soy candles with no additives or dyes. They are sponsoring this year’s Sun Belt Bowl. The runners-up from the Dragons and Scorpions Regions will compete in the first-ever Sun Belt Bowl.

Jesse Worthington is an Independent Consultant for a dermatology-inspired skincare products company and is based at Fort Benning, Ga. She is sponsoring the 12 Labours Bowl, which put head-to-head the runners-up from the Great Lakes Hydras and PAC South Wild Boars Regional Championship games.

Nature Coast Tailgating is located in Spring Hill, Fla., and is owned by Brandon Valenca. They produce tailgating products including cornhole boards and bags, ladder toss games, and tabletop cornhole boards. Nature Coast is awaiting the final Regional selections for the season before they choose what Bowl they will sponsor.

In an effort to try and get more teams to the playoffs, without the constraints of weeks in a season and playoff ladders, the FSA Competition Advisory Council developed the Bowl Games. Following the Regional Championship games, the teams who runner-up during that round will move on to a Rivalry Bowl Game. The Rivalry Bowl Games will make their debut near the end of the 2019 season and will take place during Week 15 of the NFL Regular season.

Ivy Bowl - New England Phoenix vs Asia (To Be Named)
The Bowl: The concept from this bowl stems from a historical Bowl game with the same name. The Ivy Bowl was an international college football game played between an American, 43-man all-star team (composed of only Ivy League players) versus a team of college all-stars from Japan. The first Ivy Bowl occurred on January 8, 1989, and the final game occurred at the conclusion of the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA football season. The United States won every match-up. The wins, because they were not between two NCAA-affiliated schools and some of the years were mixed school (all-star) teams do not count toward official win-loss records. We wanted to revitalize this Bowl and have our New England Region (where many of the Ivy schools are located) and our Asia Region compete.

The Sponsor:

Colossus Bowl - Mid-Atlantic Krakens vs European Gryphons
The Bowl: Researching possible names for this Bowl game caused us to focus on the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Sometimes called the New Colossus, we learned the Old Colossus, or Colossus of Rhodes, was a statue of the Greek sun-god, Helios, which was erected in the city of Rhodes, on the Greek island of the same name. The names and locations of these two statues was the inspiration for these two regions to compete against each other and the inspriation behind the name.

The Sponsor:

12 Labours Bowl - Great Lakes Hydras vs PAC South Wild Boars
The Bowl: The concept behind this Bowl was the catalyst for all of the Rivalry Bowls. The Rose Bowl is the oldest NCAA Bowl game in college football history. The Bowl is played between the Big 10 and the PAC-12 Conferences. The teams in those Conferences match the same locations of the Great Lakes and PAC South Regions. The name of the Bowl was inspired by the 12 Labours of Hercules. During the second labour, Hercules slayed the Lernaean Hydra, the inspiration for the Great Lakes mascot. During the fourth labour, Hercules was to take the Erymanthian Boar back to Eurystheus alive. The Erymanthian Boar was the inspiration for our PAC South mascot. The 12 stars around the Bowl logo represent those labours with the second and fourth shown in a different color to match these particular labours.

The Sponsor: Jesse Worthington Independent Consultant for Rodan + Fields is the mother of two beautiful rambunctious children and the wife of a US Army Drill Sergeant. She admits, running her own business on her own time is very important so she can ensure she never misses important family time. Rodan + Fields has given her the opportunity to spend her time as she chooses and also continue to provide income for the family. She absolutly loves their entire product line and she would love to help you find your favorite products too.

Mountain Bowl - Appalachian Black Bears vs Rocky Mountain Big Horns
The Bowl: When debating which Regions should be paired together for Rivalry Bowls, Great Lakes Regional Manager, Jason Haislet, recommended these two for competition. "In my opinion, it's a no brainer," Haislet said. "They are our two mountain ranges, they have to play against each other." Thus, this Rivalry Bowl was created.

The Sponsor:

Sun Belt Bowl - South Atlantic Dragons vs Southwest Scorpions
The Bowl: After pairing the Great Lakes with the PAC South (two of our four original Regions) it made sense to pair these two Regions; the other two Regions of the original four. The name Sun Belt comprises the southern tier of the United States. Another rough definition of the Sun Belt is the area south of the 36th parallel.

The Sponsor: At Georgia Rustics Candle Co., they put their heart into creating 100% natural, hand-poured, small-batch, soy candles that they think you'll enjoy. Thier candles are made from 100% natural Soy wax, no additives or dyes, and only the purest scents.  They are extremely allergy friendly and really do smell amazing. Maggie Stineman, the owner of Georgia Rustics Candle Co., is a US Army veteran. She is married to her best friend, the mother of two crazy daughters and is working at building an empire one candle at a time.

Storm Bowl - Gulf Coast Serpents vs Central Nightmares
The Bowl: This Bowl was the toughest to name. It finally came together after a lot of collaboration with the great minds in the Alliance. While looking for commonalities between these two Regions, the abundance of storms became apparent. Between the hurricanes of the Gulf Coast and the tornados of the central United States, this Bowl finally received its name.

The Sponsor:

Great Divide Bowl - Great Plains Minotaurs vs PAC North Sasquatch
The Bowl: While looking for something unique between these two Regions, which was worthy of naming the Bowl game after, our research discovered the continental divides of the Americas - more specifically, the Great Divide. The Great Divide is also known as the Western Continental Divide. It extends from the Bering Strait to the Strait of Magellan. It also separates the watersheds that drain into the Pacific Ocean from those river systems that drain into the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea.

The Sponsor:

Maple Leaf Bowl - West Canadian Lynx vs East Canadian Banshees
The Bowl: Just as it was a "no brainer" to pair our two mountain range Regions together, it was obvious to us that we had to pit these two Regions together. This will allow us to have an overall Canadian Bowl Champion each season.

2019 Official Rules and Regulations of Fantasy Sports Alliance (FSA)

       1. Overview

Fantasy Sports Alliance (FSA) consists of 16 Regions spanned across the United States and the rest of the globe. These Regions have been created based on heavily researched data. The REGIONAL MAP link shows the break down of each Region along with its corresponding mascot. Not shown are the Asian and European Regions.

The physical location of our members will correspond to which Region they will participate. Members from each Region will play most of their games against other members within the same Region. Regions with larger membership will be broken into smaller leagues. The members in the leagues will play other members who are near each other. Each Region/league will draft from the entire pool of NFL players. FSA will use My Fantasy League as the scoring engine for the 2019 season. Each Region will be represented as a separate “division” on My Fantasy League. The FSA regular season will begin with all Week 1 NFL games through all Week 12 games. The 10 teams from each Region/league will be broken down into two divisions of 5 teams each. Teams will play each team in their Division twice in head-to-head competition (8 games), and each team in the opposite division once (5 games) for a total of 13 regular season games. To accomplish 13 games in just 12 weeks, the last week of the fantasy regular season will consist of a double-header. The playoffs will host 16 teams (the top two teams from each Region). The National Championship playoffs will be single-elimination games beginning in Week 13 of the NFL Regular Season.

2.   Draft

The Draft Selection Day will be held on Saturday, 3 August 2019. On this date, all teams will learn what draft selection they are awarded for their respective Region.

All Drafts will take place online at My Fantasy League on Saturday, 31 August, at TBD.

Each Region will be comprised of 10 teams, and each draft will last for 16 rounds, with each team selecting a player in each round in a serpentine fashion (Team 1 through Team 10 in Round 1 and Team 10 through Team 1 in Round 2). Players can be drafted at any position at any time in the draft, however, each team must have at least one player for each of the designated starting positions by the end of the draft. Each team must start a weekly lineup of 10 players and the team roster must remain at 16 players; there are no injured reserve lists beyond the team total of 16.

3.   Roster Requirements

Your roster must always have 16 players.

4.   Starting Lineup Requirements

2 Quarterbacks (QB)
1 Running Back (RB)
2 Wide Receivers (WR)
1 Flex Player (RB/WR)
1 Tight End (TE)
1 Flex Player (RB/WR/TE)
1 Kicker
1 Team Defense/Special Teams

Starting lineups will need to be submitted at least one minute before the first game of the week (usually on Thursday). However, if you have members on your roster, who are playing later in the week, you can bench and activate players if the NFL team they belong to has not already played for the week.

5.   Waiver Wire

Waivers put temporary freezes on unclaimed players, giving everyone a chance to make a claim on them. When this time period ends, all waiver claims are processed and the manager with the highest waiver priority gets the player. The Waiver Wire will be a season long rolling list. Meaning, once you have made a successful waiver wire claim, your team moves to the bottom of the wavier wire order.

7.   Schedule & Playoffs

The first 12 weeks of the NFL season represent the regular season for the FSA. During these 12 weeks, each team will play the other teams in its Division twice (8 games). Teams will also play all 5 teams in the opposite Division, in its Region, once for a total of 13 games. To accomplish 13 games in just 12 weeks, there will a double-header played the last week of the fantasy regular season.

When the FSA Regular Season ends, 16 teams will make the playoffs; the top two teams from each Region. These teams will play to determine the Regional Champion.

The 8 Regional Champions will then be placed on a single-elimination ladder based on their overall record. Teams will be reseeded after each round, ultimately reaching the Fanatically Real Bowl, which will be played during Week 16 of the NFL Regular season.

Those teams that runner-up in the Regional Championship round will represent their Region in a Regional Rivalry Bowl game. The list of Bowl games and their participants are listed below. Each of these Bowl games will take place during Week 15 of the NFL Regular season.

Ivy Bowl = New England Phoenix vs Asia (To Be Named)
Colossus Bowl = Mid-Atlantic Krakens vs European Gryphons
12 Labours Bowl = Great Lakes Hydras vs PAC South Wild Boars
Mountain Bowl = Appalachian Black Bears vs Rocky Mountain Big Horns
Sun Belt Bowl = South Atlantic Dragons vs Southwest Scorpions
Storm Bowl = Gulf Coast Serpents vs Central Nightmares
Great Divide Bowl = Great Plains Minotaurs vs PAC North Sasquatch
Maple Leaf Bowl = West Canadian Lynx vs East Canadian Banshees

      8. Alliance Invitational Tournament (AIT) / Alliance Invitational Bowl Games

The 2018 season was the last year for the Alliance Invitational Tournament (AIT). Replacing the AIT in 2019 will be the Alliance Invitational Bowl (AIB) games. To qualify for an AIB, a team must finish the regular season with a better than .500 record (7-6 or better). Teams will be paired against each by our AIB Selection Committee. Teams will not play other teams inside their own Region during AIB weeks. The AIB games will take place during Weeks 13 and 14 of the NFL Regular season.

      9.   Cerberus All-Team (CAT) Bowl

2019 will be the fourth year for the All-Team Bowl. Drawing on different concepts from the NFL's Pro Bowl, the All-Team Bowl will take place as follows:

      a. The two general managers of the teams eliminated in the semi-final round of the Fanatically Real Bowl will compete in the All-Team Bowl. The All-Team Bowl will determine our "third-place" team and will guarantee a larger purse.

      b. The All-Team Bowl will take place during Week 17 of the NFL regular season. This will be the week after the Fanatically Real Bowl.

      c. The two general managers will redraft an all-star team to compete against each other. The draft will consist of a serpentine draft for 16 rounds. The team with the better record will decide if they want to pick first or defer so they can select players with the second and third picks.

      d. The entire 16-player roster of the All-Team Bowl teams will count for points in what we are calling depth chart football. The 9 starting roster spots shown below count for 100% of the points they earn during Week 17. The "second string" players will count for 50% of the points they earn and the "third string" players will count for 25% of the points they earn. The rosters will be as follows:

            1 Quarterback (QB)
            1 Running Back (RB)
            2 Wide Receivers (WR)
            1 Flex Player (RB/WR)
            1 Tight End (TE)
            1 Flex Player (RB/WR/TE)
            1 Kicker
            1 Team Defense/Special Teams

            1 Quarterback
            1 Running Back
            1 Wide Receiver
            1 Team Defense/Special Teams

            1 Quarterback
            1 Running Back
            1 Wide Receiver

e. During the All-Team Bowl Draft, one player from each of the 32 NFL teams must be drafted and will compete in the All-Team Bowl. For example, there are 32 roster spots for the All-Team Bowl; there are also 32 NFL teams. Once a player is drafted from an NFL team, neither All-Team Bowl general manager is able to draft another player from that team. To further illustrate this idea, consider...

The team with the better record elects to draft first and selects Patrick Mahomes. Since team one has now chosen Mahomes, players like, Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs Defense can no longer be selected by either team.

The draft will continue until a player from each NFL team has been selected.

f. Following the conclusion of the draft, the general managers must submit their starting lineup, second, and third string players prior to the first game of Week 17.

       10. Alliance Payout Structure

$400 to National Runner-up: $100 for Regional Championship + $300 for earning National Runner-up
$250 to All-Team Bowl Champion: $100 for Regional Championship + $150 for All-Team Bowl Champs
$200 to All-Team Bowl Runner-up: $100 for Regional Championship + $100 All-Team Bowl Runner-up

** These amounts are based on 80 members. The payout will adjust based on the number of players **

      11. Hall of Fame

The end of the 2018 season saw our first member inducted into the Fantasy Sports Alliance Hall of Fame. The criteria to be eligible for the Hall of Fame is simple: A current or former member of Fantasy Sports Alliance must have played at least seven years with the league. Those seven years could be consecutively or broken up over time. To also be eligible for the Hall of Fame, a former or current member must have made a positive contribution to FSA; championships and winning records help, but they are not the only criteria. FSA staff and Regional Managers will nominate those members who they feel are worthy of the Hall of Fame during the Wild Card weekend of the NFL season (January 4-5, 2020). The voting committee will defend their Hall of Fame selection over the next several weeks and a vote will be cast during Super Bowl LIV weekend (February 1-2, 2020). An eligible member must receive a “go” from 80% of the committee to become a Hall of Fame member. The announcement of those who will be enshrined will be made at the final Fanatically Real Broadcast of the season on February 5, 2020.
